Eventually the sharing did stop working... Running Windows 7 Pro on the desktop now and I still had the same issue when connecting to the shared printer. Perhaps with Vista being more readily available as a 64-bit app some of this will change. My HP printer is connected to a W7 Desktop. More Help

Your fix solved all this, and fooled my W7 into thinking it was directly hooked up to the printer, thus tricking it into realizing it could find the driver. at 4) chose TCPIP port and at 5) enter the IP address of the printer on your LAN.
