I use a Thinkpad T61 at work running XP with SP3 no problems. This can usually be done by visiting the manufacturer's website, looking up the returns/warranty section, and entering the serial number of the drive. If you don't want to do that and it' s really very dead, DON'T just ‘chuck it in the bin'.
