It works well with an external monitor. i did find however that if i shine a bright light or flashlight on it i can see and actually use it, although it sucks holding a flashlight and squinting. Not wishing bad luck on you, but this one really racked my brain. But seemings the screen works on XP with a certain driver, I would doubt the inverter (or any hardware) to be purely the cause.
